Friends of the Library, Ponte Vedra Beach SPEAKER SERIES

All events are free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.

We welcome you back to the Speaker Series offering a variety of programs in 2023.

Our May Speaker Series program will feature JAN BIALKA on Tuesday, May 16 at 6:30 pm. She will present a non-scholarly talk titled From Known to Unknown Women Artists in the 19th Century. Jan is a local artist and long time member of the FOL board. She earned a BA in history and has spent the last thirty years increasing her knowledge through travel and studies in the US and Europe. She feels that being an amateur gives her a certain freedom of expression. All programs, except the March program, are at the library’s FOL Room.

They are free and open to the public. The doors will open at 6:00 pm.

Lantana Trio Tuesday May 9th

The Lantana Trio is composed of three members present and retired from the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, Melissa Barrett – violin, Betsy Federman – cello, and Ileana Fernandez – piano. Together they present a wonderful chamber music performance. Melissa is the Associate Concertmaster of the Jacksonville Symphony. She is also an adjunct faculty member at UNF, where she enjoys mentoring students on violin, chamber music and orchestral repertoire. Betsy has been a member of the Jacksonville Symphony since1994. She participates in many summer festivals. Ileana began her study at age 11, after coming to the US from Cuba. She retired from the symphony in 2022 after 41 years of service. All three have performed throughout the US.

Seymour’s, the used bookstore at the Ponte Vedra Beach branch of the St. Johns County Library System, is open six days a week, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The bookstore offers fiction, non-fiction, childen’s books, classics, DVDs, puzzles, and more at reasonable prices.  Seymour’s is staffed by loyal volunteers who will help you find what you are looking for.  All materials are donated by members of the community.  The donation box is located inside the library lobby.  For large donations, please stop by the store on either Tuesday or Thursday in the early afternoon and the store clerk will direct you to the donation drop off area.  Please note that Seymour’s does not accept damaged materials, magazines, textbooks, dictionaries, or encyclopedias.

Your donations will serve the library, the bookstore and the community. The Friends of the Library has raised over a million dollars for the library in the last 25 years. This money was raised through memberships, book sales, and Seymour’s Bookstore. These funds have been used to build our community room, construct a new entrance to the library, purchase new furnishings, create a teen area, and buy computers for the children’s area. In addition, we provide each department of the library with an annual budget to purchase particular materials such as books, craft materials, games, software, or any item they might need for their children and adult programming. The FOL also provides the music and speaker series for the library which is free to the community.
